Mathematical Tripos Exams

In the recent days, I have been reading the biography of Math genius - Ramanujan S, written by Robert Kanigel. It's a wonderful book and I have come to know of some brilliant math philosophies introduced by G.H Hardy, Bertrand Russell, J.E Littlewood and Ramanujan.

The toughest exam in those days the TRIPOS required 2 years coaching for cracking the exam. Well, in a way it replicates the IITJEE.

It is conducted even now, and I have found certain links to the Past papers held in Cambridge.

This is a link to the past 10 year's papers - http://www.maths.cam.ac.uk/undergrad/pastpapers/

I will try to solve some of these questions.

This paper is a test for those who want to earn a B.A degree in Cambridge and is taken up by 3rd and 4th year students.

Massachusetts Institute Of Technology(MIT) Exam Paper

Today, I just solved 1 exam paper of the MIT university. To be frank, I was able to complete it in 15 minutes - a 100 mark paper. Well, this paper was used to test the UG Students in their 1st semester.

I verified the solutions and scored a 100/100 in this paper (shocking revelation for me too!)

I'll post the questions and solutions in my next post.

The questions are as follows:-

Problem 1

Problem 2

Problem 3 - Graph
Problem 3 - Questions

Course on Physics

View these videos by Prof. Shankar of Yale University..

I think these lectures are really informative, and I've also been hearing lectures on Game Theory (Economics) by a Prof. of Yale University (even though I was not an economics student in my 11th and 12th :P)

Faraday's Cage

I happened to see this post on Faraday's Cage in one of the questions posted. I had knowledge that it works on the same basis of a conductor and hence is successful in eliminating electric field inside (hence protecting us).

Today, I viewed a small clip by MIT Professor Walter Lewin - performing experiments with the Faraday's Cage and Van de Graff.

Have a look at this video!

In the end, once he enters the Cage - he talks about a "Problem". He states that even though they couldn't hear the radio - they could hear him speak and gives an explanation that his voice is of high radio frequency (i guess).

But, I think the sole reason should be that what he speaks (ie sound) is a mechanical wave and in no way is an electromagnetic wave and hence the Faraday cage has no reason blocking Sound(mechanical) waves.

Shakuntala Devi - More about Puzzles

Hi,

I was solving some puzzles from the book written by Math Genius - Shakuntala Devi, while going to Sharjah from Dubai - (a 45 minute Journey).

It's solving while in Bus..so you shouldn't expect neatness!!
